Chart Slide

The chart slide option allows you to display a data value, including aggregate measures of the value in a chart style of your choice either as a single slide or as a segment on a Multi Slide

  • A. When a chart slide is first added the default is to display the count of records in a single default color

The slide tab has the following sections:

The data options on each chart type allow you to select:

Value

To select a property to display as the value in the chart

If a dimension is chosen, then the following options are displayed:

  • Count (CNT) Default
  • Count Distinct (CNTD)

If a measure is chosen then the options are:

  • Average (AVG)
  • Sum (SUM)
  • Minimum (MIN)
  • Maximum (MAX)
  • Range (RNG)
  • Count (CNT)
  • Bucket Count (CNTD)

Additional Options

Note: Not all options are available on all chart types

image

  • A. Selecting the Cog icon will expand the Value Data Options panel

The following additional options will then be available:

  • B. Show Inner Label
  • C. Show Outer Label
  • D. Cumulative Sum
  • E. Range toggle switch with Min and Max options when Auto is switched off

Group By

Choose a property via the dropdown to group the displayed value by

Additional Options

Note: Not all options are available on all chart types

  • A. Selecting the Cog icon will expand the Group By Data Options panel

The following additional options will then be available

  • B. Show Blank: Enable this option to include a data point for blank values
  • C. Show Empty: Select this option to include data points on chart for empty data buckets
  • D. Sort: Dropdown selection to set sort order of chart bars with choice of:
    • By Bucket
    • High to Low
    • Low to High
  • E. Number of bars: Default setting of auto will display all chart bars. Switching auto selector off enables a slider control to adjust number of bars shown on chart
  • F. Label width: Default setting of auto will display full width label. “Switch auto selector off” enables a slider to adjust the width in pixels of the chart label

Color By

Dropdown selection to choose a property to color charts by

For more detail on color palette see Color Control

If no selection is made then a single default color is used

Bar Chart

A range of charts with the option to display the bars stacked in 3 ways

  1. Stacked
  2. Stacked Percentage Bar
  3. Clustered

With orientation set to either:

  • A. Horizontal
  • B. Vertical

The example Bar Charts shown for each option have all been produced using

  • The same dataset
  • Value = count of records (with inner and outer value labels selected)
  • Group By = Grade
  • Color By = Department with same palette

Stacked Bar

Bars in chart are sized in proportion to the value selected

Horizontal

Vertical

Stacked Percentage Bar

In a stacked percentage chart the colored segments on each bar represent the percentage value of the overall bar. If no “color by” option is chosen each bar will display as 100%

Clustered Bar

With a clustered bar chart, the colored bars are separated and displayed, grouped by the chosen property

Edit Bar Chart Axis Labels

Axis labels on Bar charts maybe edited by double-clicking the label to edit it, entering required text, and hitting enter to confirm the new label

Exporting Large Bar Charts

When exporting bar charts with the Number of bars setting switched to manual and a reduced number of bars displayed on the screen, Orgvue will automatically create enough pages in the PowerPoint to show all bars on your chart

Funnel Chart

The funnel chart is similar to a bar chart as it displays a set of either horizontal or vertical bars representing a value that is grouped by a property, and can be colored by another property

The key difference is that the bars are displayed laid on top of each other and arranged along a central horizontal or vertical axis

Funnel charts are commonly used to show the shape of an organization by viewing the number of employees at each level of the hierarchy

Both these Funnel charts show:

  • The same dataset
  • Value = Count of records
  • Group By = Depth
  • Color By = No color applied

Axis labels on Funnel charts maybe edited by double-clicking the label to edit it, entering required text, and hitting enter to confirm the new label

Line Chart

The line chart displays a value plotted as a line along an axis based on a chosen property

These values can be displayed as a series of lines if the Color By option is chosen

In common with other chart types, it is also possible to choose either Horizontal or Vertical orientation for the chart display

The example Line charts both show:

  • The same dataset
  • Value = Average Bonus Percentage
  • Group By = Performance Ranking
  • Color By = Department

Vertical

Pie Chart

The pie chart offers a standard circular chart view of a value split into segments based on a chosen property with the segments sized, based on the proportion of the total value

Choosing a color by that matches the group by property will color the segments as per the example below

However, choosing a different color by property will further segment the group by segments, based on the colors

image

Bubble Chart

The bubble chart plots values as circles along both an x and y-axis

It is most suited to situations where the axis properties are measures as shown in the example

The circles may be plotted as the same size to simply indicate position on the axis, or may be sized based on the value of a property

In this example the chart has the following settings

  • Y Axis = Average Bonus Percentage
  • X Axis = Average Performance Ranking
  • Group By = Department
  • Color By = Gender

This plots circles along the X and Y axis representing the position of the different departments split by gender
